The hypothesis of the project presented by a group of mature claims and suggestions and universal ideals that the issue of school brings with it and from local analysis that goes down in the careful study of the places in which it is to operate.
The lot is part south of the city of Merano, in a production area artisan Untermais already largely built. It has an area of ??3890 square meters and is located at the intersection of two main arteries of the area.
The intervention should therefore be to fit into an already quite saturated, which is why it was impossible to escape a comparison with the forms and language of the surrounding buildings looking for a new form that complimented the space and accrescesse the significance of the crossing on which overlook the existing buildings, transforming the real heart of the area.
The first tip that has fueled the design process was the need for a re-stitching, a redefinition of the intersection Kuperion’s Street on west and Scuderie’s Street on south.
The shape of the project is therefore a real process modeling architectural characteristic of the creative process of the shop craft or sculpture. The project in fact part of the definition of a monolithic block that follows the shape of the lot, from which digging and subtracting material, according to the lessons of the masters, have gradually defined the various areas of the two schools and the areas of relationship between the various bodies of the complex.
This compositional process has been driven from the outset by the projection of the lines of the buildings and surrounding areas. Access to the entire complex is in fact aligned with the school Luis Zuegg, in a building’s existing virtual interpenetration with the new complex. It is therefore made to the identification of the square, the courtyard by defining a void in the heart of the building. The square contributes significantly to the creation of a dynamic interaction that becomes the node symbol, representative of the task that is required today to the school: the possibility of a training that arises from the exchange, the encounter between students. But the square of the school becomes the place of aggregation of the city, open to accommodate the flow of the surrounding areas according to the vision of the school as a privileged space of social life, neighborhood center hub unit neighborhood.
Around the central square, on the ground floor, they develop all the different rooms and the upper floors of the complex space is born again following this compositional process of subtracting the initial volume replicated always with the same rules but reaching new solutions.
The design process is always controlled by a careful calculation of the surfaces required for the various functions down to an unified definition of four functional blocks: the block of the school Levinas, one of the Marconi’s school, the gym and finally the common facilities.
The volumes of the four blocks mentioned above always maintain their identity and autonomy but without giving up a relationship and continuous interaction through common areas or shared.
It is therefore tried hard to bring the different spaces, different functions, for a unity through a comprehensive search of the image that is imposed in place without spoiling but characterizing it. On the southeast side of the lot is developed the functional block of the school Marconi which is accessed directly from Scuderie’s Street. On the ground floor are all classrooms required, direction, voice and various services. The school is spread to all the other areas in accordance with this provision: two laboratories, respectively, on the first floor and second floor and the other in the basement and third floor.
The Levinas’s school has instead on the north side of the lot. From the courtyard we acced the ground floor of the school in which are located the various classrooms, direction, and secretarial services. As for the school Marconi they are respectively arranged two laboratories on the first floor and second floor while the rest are distributed in the basement and third floor.
The block of communal gym is positioned on the first floor, in the middle of the operation and is accessible from both schools through the internal vertical connections arranged on the ground floor is from outside through a common block that overlooks Via stables making gym accessible to any audience.
The public areas are located in the basement and third floor. In the basement is the parking area, and local technicians instead on the third floor are the library, meeting and conference room hearings so that these areas can enjoy the large terrace overlooking the surrounding area.
